The Houston Chronicle this morning reports that State Troopers (these are state police who have jurisdiction over all roads in the states) will be riding on school buses a la federal air marshals I guess, ready to ensure drivers who pass stopped school buses with kids aboard and drivers who talk on cell phones in school zones are pulled over and given tickets.
At first, one might recoil at the thought of any kind of speed or enforcement trap. But I think this is one I can easily live with. I'm happy to see it. We need to be able to send our kids to school and not worry that some irresponsible or temporarily stupid person is texting, chatting, or just mindlessly endangering the lives of our kids as they endeavor to do as they're told and make something of themselves and their lives here in the greatest nation on earth to do so. Except when someone is piloting a 2-ton bullet at them while texting.
